Wow, where did that last week go? Things are picking up with only 16 more days till Africa! I have this big 'ol pile of stuff on my spare bedroom bed ready to be packed up and on its way to Africa. Of course, I have been through several iterations of bags, duffle bags, and camera bags trying to figure out the best combination to take with me.
I spent the weekend gardening. Shock I know! Most of you who know me probably don't consider me the gardening type, but with my fancy new deck, I wanted to make it nice and somewhat livable. I had this great deck in NYC, but never really got the chance to turn it into a nice livable space. So, I was determined to make my new deck here in Seattle nice and useable.
The new grill, deck chairs and table were bought last week (a big thanks to Lori for helping move all that heavy stuff). This weekend, I bought flowers and planters and put all those together. Some poppies and daisies (my fav) and some other pretty flowers I can't even pronounce were all put into these great planters that hang from my deck railing. Add in some beautiful hanging fushia plants, and a quick vaccum of the deck (yes, I vaccumed my deck!) and it is all ready for entertaining.
I have pictures of the deck, but I can't seem to get my card reader to work right now. I will try to post some photos later.

I Love Electricty
We here in Seattle had a massive wind storm here Thursday night and seeing as wind and tall trees usually don't go together, we had quite the number of power outages. Over a million homes and businesses were without power.
I was lucky however and my place never lost power. In fact I never realized how bad the windstorm was until I went out to run some errands on Friday. D'oh. Traffic lights out everywhere and stores all over the places closed due to no power. Our local Safeway lost over a half million dollars in food when they lost power for just over 24 hours.
My friend Lori is staying at my place now cause her house has been without power since Thursday night. And it has now gotten cold here over the weekend. And of course, everyone without power is heading to the already overcrowded malls. Hopefully all the power will be restored soon.

Moving Day
The moving trucks with all my furniture show up tomorrow. YAY for finally having furniture in the house, but I am not looking forward to all the boxes and chaos and the mess.
My friend Lori and painted my living room today. I love freshly painted walls. And, painting goes so much faster with two people.

Proud to be a Geek
Most of you know I am an engineer by trade and somewhat OCD about my home being organized. And a new home with different sized closets and kitchen cabinets means a trip to one of my favorite stores, The Container Store.
So, I get all the measurements I need, grab my trusty tape measure and head off to said organizational mecca. I am working my way through the store, cart loaded with new goodies, when some cute little Container Store employee come over to ask if I need any help. He is the conversation that follows....
"No I pretty much got everything on my list," I comment as I wave my neatly printed out list.
"Wow, you are organized. Usually people come here and want to get something, but don't have measurements to know if the item will fit."
"Well, I am an engineer and a bit anal about all this, so I measured everything before I came here to make sure."
"Well, at least you don't have all your cabinets and closets drawn out on a piece of graph paper," Container Store employee chuckles.

"Well actually......," as I sheepishly show her my notebook full of neatly printed out diagrams of my kitchen cabinets, laundry room cabinets, and all my closets.
crappity crap crap crap.... I am officially a geek!
Container Store Employee then make a beeline for the other part of the store as I laughed and yell after her, "Run, run away, as fast as you can."
And in other geekdom news.
My friend Lori was over yesterday to see the new place and she helped me fix the small leak on my washing machine.
We took out the drainage hose where the leak seemed to be coming from the connection of said hose to the back of the machine and headed to Home Depot. We were not sure what the problem was until my brain finally kicked in and I realized that the hose end seemed to be missing a simple little o-ring.
So, we bought an o-ring and headed back to the condo. We re-installed the drainage hose (as well as new braided supply hoses) and turned on the washing machine to test the seal of the drainage hose.
As we were leaning over the machine checking to make sure there were no more leaks, I commented that the whole problem was caused by a simple little o-ring.
My mind immediately thinks of the long ago Shuttle Challenger disaster just as Lori says, "just like the Space Shuttle Challenger." Hee.
Then we both laugh and comment further that we are such dorks for making that kind of analogy from a o-ring on a washing machine.
So, make fun of me all you want for being a total dork, but I can fix my own washing machine and I have the best organized closets. Neener neener!
