UNODC

I was scanning the news today and saw this article on the BBC website. Check out the map that is part of the article. It was pretty eye opening. You get so focused on the countries where the trafficking victims are coming from that you forget about their destinations. I would have never thought the US (and Canada!) would be a major destination for victims of slavery. And western Europe is not much better. These so called "civilized" countries apparently have the demand for so many traffiked people. Argh!

But there may be good news in the wings. The UN has launched a global initiative to fight human trafficking. Check this out. I am not a big fan of the UN who seems pretty hapless in most major international arenas, but the more awareness this issue receives, the sooner we end it.
