4 feet, 8-1/2 inches

Yes, another bit of useless information for y'all. What is 4' 8.5"?

It is the US standard railroad gauge (distance between the rails). Yup, that's right, its a railroad guage.

Did you know that this odd railroad guage measurement comes all the way from ancient Rome? Well, it does. Apparently Roman war chariots formed the initial ruts, which everyone else had to match for fear of destroying their wagon wheels. This led to wagon wheel spacing which eventually led to railroad guage.
